Goodbye Goodsell
26 October 2014
I put a call in to Ginny to talk to her about the winter and next year, and she never returned my call. That did it for me; the uncertainty for next year combined with what happened last spring put me over the edge and I decided to change marinas.
I had called Bruce & Johnson to find out if they had room, etc. and decided to pull the trigger. What a difference: I call them and they answer the phone, and they have a website where I downloaded the contracts and got all of the info I needed; what a contrast. They cost more (that's for sure), but you get what you pay for.
So I took the afternoon off on Friday (10/24), and went to the marina. I had the new minivan, and loaded up the cushions, sails, etc. I saw Bruce on Holiday Routine (who was coming back for winter storage, but didn't know what he was going to do for next summer). They spent the summer at B&J, and was telling me that they didn't really use the facilities much, but that it was very nice there. He did show me where he had scraped up the side of his boat because of the currents at the new place.
I also saw Carlo, whose boat was already out of the water and stored at Goodsell for the winter. He had been at Dutch Wharf over the summer, and also had problems with the currents. He is unsure where he'll be next summer. We traded contact info. I hope to see him soon.
After loading up the van, I called B&J and they told me to come on over. I was wary of the current after listening to Bruce and Carlo. As I was pulling in to the south side of dock B, I noticed the current pushing me towards the opposite dock. I was able to compensate and docked without incident in slip B17. I went into the office and met Cathy, who checked the contract and took my deposit. What a nice experience. I'm really looking forward to the new place and the amenities. Dad came over and gave me a ride back to Goodsell. I looked around before I left. There are a lot of good memories; I wonder what will happen to the place...
