What's that noise? You hear it?

Competent sailors must be in tune with their ship, the weather and the sea. Safety of ship and crew depends on everyone being on alert and attentive. One time on the Beneteau, Jody shouted up from the cabin "the engine doesn't sound right Gerry"! Are you sure I asked? Yes, you need to hear this. Her attention to this detail identified a broken water pump belt, which was easily fixed - possibly saving saving a lot of damage to the engine!
So, yesterday while we were motoring 12 miles offshore, a new clicking sound didn't go unnoticed! After some research, we discovered a rudder bearing bolt had sheared in the big seas, and needed our immediate attention. Repairs affected an hour later with Ken controlling the boat and Fred helping me, we' were good to go again. Huzzah is a capable, well found boat with a capable crew. Thank goodness for that!
Twenty five hours (190 miles) later we pulled into Spud Point Marina in Bodega Bay, CA. It's very pretty here, and happy hour (aka Captain's hour) is in progress. Life is good aboard Huzzah.
