One-thousand mile milestone

Shortly after our daily noon position fix today, we hit our first major milestone of our voyage with 1,000 miles sailed in just 6 days and 17 minutes! It was an epic moment for us. Our daily run ending at noon was 169 miles, so we're averaging over 6.9 knots of boat speed since we departed Mexico! Our only causality of the trip so far is a telescoping reaching/whisker pole that we snapped yesterday. Entirely the Captain's fault for being lazy and not changing up to the heavy air pole when conditions warranted. The sea always makes you pay for your mistakes - no exceptions! The good news is that we landed our first tuna - a 15 pound Skipjack! A team effort in every sense of the word, Ken grabbed the pole and brought the fish in, Gerry rolled the genoa and turned the boat to slow our speed, while Fred gaffed the fish aboard with uncanny precision. As Ken began the fillet the fish, I heard him mutter something like; "let's see, how did Don do this so easily on the Ha-Ha". Afterwards, Fred made us fresh fish tacos for lunch.
It doesn't get any better than sailing the brisk tradewinds eating fresh seafood. Life is good aboard Huzzah!
