Still Trucking Across

The photo above says it all! We're hauling the mail now! Another day, another 170+ miles! As we start our 15th day at sea, the routine is unmistakable. We don't even discuss some things anymore, we just know for any given situation what's required and what our job is. It works, and Huzzah is really on a roll. The seas have smoothed out, so we're sailing really fast. Even though we routinely reduce sail at night, our last 24 hour run was 182 miles! The speedo always seems to be in the 7 to 8 knot range, day or night. Then the seas get bumpy again, and we can't even crack a deck hatch for fear of the odd wave(s) coming cover the cabin top. During the day, the cabin is like a sweat shop. With temperatures and humidity in the 90's, it's not pleasant. The preferred place to sleep is in the cockpit, but that is busy and noisy. We drink lots of water to stay hydrated, but it never seems to be enough. So, as of 0230 UTC (7pm PDT) we've now sailed 2,425 miles, and have just 500 to go - if we sailed the most direct (rhumb line) course, which we can't often do. That puts us into our anchorage in the Marquises Islands' this Saturday evening. However, proper seamanship would not make that advisable, so we'll probably have to slow her up for a proper arrival. Cheers for Huzzah!
