July 06 10 to July 10 10

Been a few days, been without wifi. Moved around a bit, had a few "adventures".

May 27th - Linda's birthday!

weather - worse than ugly!
May 27th - Linda's birthday!

Point Judith to Dutch Harbour RI.

Well - the boat handled weather worse than I have ever been in - at least in a small sailboat. And with 15 knot winds - gusting to something else and 5 foot seas, it was a challenge. Not the birthday present the commodore wanted.

My knees are really sore from riding that one out. Auto did a fine job when needed (trim sails, look at chart etc) but I did a lot oa hand steering.

Once we got up the Sakonnett River things calmed down. We came into Dutch Harbor Boatyard - to take a mooring, and to take Linda out for a birthday supper.

The grocery store was "just up the hill" (I never did find it.
The hardware store was just the other side of the hill - I found it but it was a good hour walk each way.
The cruising guide said $35 for a mooring - "Oh - it hasn't been $35 for years" said the dock master.

Oh well - $50 for a mooring and cold showers did not a great day make. But - dinner was grand and I am ready for sleeps now - and it is only 7:30 pm.

The picture is us enjoying the warmth (literally) of three oil lanterns. (the middle one is my pride and joy - a retirement gift from good friends - it is a Weems & Plath Yacht lamp)

Tomorrow we find a spot to drop the hook.

Sorry - no pictures today - too busy steering the boat.

Cheers

Rik
