Been a few days, been without wifi. Moved around a bit, had a few "adventures".

June 4th, 09 - Portsmith, NH to West Bath, ME

June 4th, 09 - Portsmith, NH to West Bath, ME

74.8 nautical miles, 10 hours 55 minutes

We left Portsmith with the intentions of going to Portland, ME. But - we were woken up about 0500 with a tug boat horn. I looked out and about 100 metres off and going past were three tugs, four home-land-security type boats and one honking huge submarine! Of course I am scrambling around trying to find the camera. Got a couple of shots but not as good as if I had gotten them as it went right by us.

So, being up, and having good weather we went all the way to Chuck and Ginger's place in Brighams Cove which is just north of The Basin in the same side of the small bay called Winnegance Bay. It was a good day, cool but with light winds.

Some pretty big traffic just off Portland, ME. Having the AIS receiver is very helpful. I was able to tell well in advance that the 220 tanker "Conqueror" would pass us in 12 minutes with a CPS (closest point of approach) of less than a tenth of a mile. The AIS also provided me the name and call sign and lots of other pertinent data, so, we talked on 13 and decided it would be easier for me to turn and change course than for him.

Motor-sailed and arrived about 1700. Chuck had just checked his five lobster traps and had two fresh lobster waiting. It doesn't get any better than that. Boiled lobster, steak on the barbie, fresh veggies - delish!

Right now it is 9 am and I am sitting in the cockpit picking up "Covenet". Linda is still sleeping. We did laundry till late last night. Chuck drove us into West Bath for grocery shopping, laundry, diesel and ice.

A shore day today in their neat little cottage. It is about 70 metres from where I am sitting on his mooring right now.
