Linda / grey, sunny, bumpy, swells and not comfortable
Linda here - writing for today, and as I sit here writing we are tied up to a floating dock in North East Harbor, Maine on Mount Desert Island. Tomorrow is a laundry day, so we'll spend two nights here. We're almost to our favorite 'cruising ground' - the Penobscot Bay area. It's warm enough for swimming there, and there are so many lovely little towns and the scenery is gorgeous.

Today was a long day from Cutler, Maine to here. There was little wind, and what little there was was going in the wrong direction for sailing, but there were big sea swells. And me and sea swells don't get along. The big upward and downward and sideways motions are what make people like me seasick, and we endured them from 6:30 a.m. until 4:30 in the afternoon. But we are here. And for just this night we're not going anywhere. Oh, I LOVE my new boat with its warm shower!

Tomorrow we'll hook up the outboard to the dinghy and head to shore.

People ask what cruising is like and the closest I can come up with is that it's like RV-ing on the water.

Cappy, our wonderful new cat, spent the entire day curled up in his 'safe spot', a shelf over the hanging locker that he has claimed. But he's smart. While underway he refuses to eat or drink - so he doesn't get sick. But as soon as we're on a dock, or anchored or on a mooring, after he's eaten a bowl of his favorite chow, he's outside exploring on the deck of the boat. Before we went on this trip he fell in the water twice, so he has a very good fear of venturing too close to the edge of the boat.

More later - with more pictures.

Linda
