Cape May to Sandy Hook.
This is Linda writing this entry: We left in the a.m. around nine, not really intending to travel all the way along the coast of New Jersey in one go, but that's exactly what we did! We didn't sail very much, mostly motored, because the wind wasn't in our favor.
One of the highlights of the day was fresh bread made in our brand new oven, made by our friend Doug, who is along for the ride. The oven works great. It's going to be so nice to have an oven on board, almost as wonderful as our hot shower!
The wind picked up as the afternoon progressed and by 4 p.m. we were in a very ugly following sea. (That's when big waves are rolling in the same direction as the boat. It makes the boat 'yaw" which means it goes from left to right constantly as it tries to make its way through the water.)
But this lessened as the evening progressed, and at 2:30 in the morning we finally anchored in Sandy Hook, the northernmost tip of NJ's coast line.
New Jersey is one long white sandy beach. Beautiful! I grew up in New Jersey and spent many wonderful days on the beach looking out at the sailboats. Never did I ever expect that one day I would be in one.
