Ready for the Off

11 November 2010 | 54 16.9'S:036 30.5'W, Grytviken, South Georgia
Chris
The 'Fram', an expedition cruise ship, arrived at Grytviken late last evening with our expedition's kayaks. the kayaks were taken off the ship this morning and our team has been busy all day preparing the kayaks and loading their equipment. We hope to start the circumnavigation attempt early tomorrow morning. The weather for the next few days looks fair so fingers crossed that we can make some good progress. The plan is to curcumnaviagte in an anti-clockwise direction. The first few days will a steep learning curve for the kayakers as they learn to cope with the conditions here at South Georgia; in particular they have to learn how to land and setup camp on beaches crowded with wildlife, much of it unfriendly!

I'll attach a photo of the preparations here at the Tijuca jetty in Grytviken.
