Dawn Start and Fast Passage South
30 December 2016 | Pigeon Island - Guadalupe
Mandy and Frank
We lifted the anchor just before dawn and left Carlisle Bay on the South Coast of Antigua at exactly 06.00 yesterday.
We headed due south in a lively sea with a steady strong 20knt wind. We had 1/2 main and full staysail and made over 7.5 knots all the way and touched over 8.5 at times.
Early on a large wave hit the side of the boat and broke over the cockpit soaking me completely from head to toe.
We swapped the staysail for the genoa and had a full main sail once we were in the lee of Guadalupe.
We had lots of fun with strong gusts and close hauled sailing down to Pigeon Island where we arrived early afternoon.
Blue Jacket and Brisa arrive a couple of hours after us.
It's now 01.00 am. I have just checked the anchor a made tea.
We plan another early start and will head for The Saintes or Pointe e Pitre depending on the wind and the forecast.
