After a few days in Sicily we decided to make a quick visit to Malta. We had to leave early to make sure we arrived during Office Hours for customs clearance. After an uneventful crossing and 70M we anchored off the small island of Comino close to Gozo for the night.
Thursday 30th
A swim and then off to St Paul’s Island. Here is a huge statue of St Paul – who was shipwrecked in Malta on his way from Damascus and brought Christianity to Malta. After a long spinnaker run we reached Marsaxlokk Bay - the main fishing port – right at the south of Malta. “The book” didn’t really explain that is was a rather large commercial port as well! Eventually we anchored just outside the channel very close to the trawler fleet! Half an hour later we were in our tender chugging through the ranks of brightly coloured small fishing boats most with the protective eye of Osiris painted on their bows. After a plateful of Lampuki (!), Swordfish and something else we were ready for bed!
