Anchoring

Costa Blanca
HOT
06/10/2012, Mar Menor

Monday 5th June
Left Gibraltar just in time to avoid the chaos of the "Alternative Jubilee Flotilla" - 100 Gibraltese boats heading for Europa Point. Nice 40 mile sail to Marbella. There are two harbours - we choose the wrong one and got turfed out. No one about in the second harbour and I had just about convinced myself that we could stay on the fuel berth for the night (not pay!) when we had to move again! A very rolly-polly marina until about midnight when the swell dropped.

Tuesday 6th June
Fog-bound until 11.30 - then a motor-sail to Catela de Valez. Went right past Torremolenos without a second glance! Very quiet on the seas - only a brief visit by two dolphins.
Wednesday
Motril
Decided the wind was good for a long sail and decided to sail through the night to see if we could move from Costa del Sol to Costa Blanca. We were making good progress and rounded Cabo de Gata in daylight. As the wind seemed to be holding we carried on and had a few hours of surfing down waves at 9 knots with just the genoa. With Isabel at the helm - being chased by a tanker closing rapidly and Bob asleep (?) it was quite exciting. Eventually the wind dies and back on came the engine. After a long motor and visits by more dolphins we dropped anchor in Cama de los Novios - otherwise known as the bed of the newly -married! Here we got a few hours sleep and a swim before heading out again. More motoring before anchoring in a small bay outside Catagena. The dinghy got taken out of its bag blown up and we made a small expedition to the shore. Isabel had a rest whilst Bob went cliff walking!
Despite putting out two anchors it was very rolly overnight as none of the bays on this coast are very sheltered. Sleep deprivation from the previous night kicked in and a good sleep was had
Saturday
We pottered quickly over to Cartagena where there was lots going on. Racing yachts spinnakers in full flight and a sea kayak race. These boys were giving it some as they were keeping up with us! We had planned to do some food shopping but as often happens - it is a Fiesta today - so no shops today or of course tomorrow.
Sunday
The mayor's daughter got married last night - which meant we had to listen to the celebrations from about 3 am to 6 am - never mind - no tides in the Med.
We had a cracking spinnaker sail to the Mar Menor where we are anchored up watching the sun go down and the jellyfish go by!

Plodding along the Costa del Sol
Hot but no wind
06/06/2012, Motril

Just another 30 miles along the coast. No wind so motoring all the way.
Wind looks good tomorrow so may sail overnight to try and get some miles under our belts!
Two milestones today
1. Bob caught a fish (but then it got away!)
2. Isabel went for a swim - lovely (but later saw a jellyfish.....)
No-one told me the Costa del Sol is so long!
