Hallowed Helloooow

Happy All Hallows Eve to You.

This pretty much looks like the fool smiles on our faces of late.

We are tied up at Vinings Landing Marina in Little Creek Inlet at the far end of Norfolk City, VA. The U.S. Naval Amphibious Base reluctantly shares this precious spot with a few marinas. It is a jewel for those of us who need to leave the Chesapeake to go around Cape Hatteras......which is what we intend to do before daybreak tomorrow morning. This inlet puts us right at the mouth of the Chesapeake - the last jumping off point before you round Cape Henry then the Big H.

Sooooooooo.....today is setting up day (see Overnighters is past blog) for the voyage which will take 2 days with a night in between. We are fine tuning our departure time as weather forecasts come in. We are waiting for the current Small Craft Advisory to run itself out (by suppertime) then calm itself enough for us to join the expected North winds flowing south while avoiding the forces of the Gulf Stream flowing north.

Alex is doing the usual boat things to get ready.......thank the powers above for that. I do details and, of course, food with stashes of snacks (Alex is now in on the snack stashing so I'm running out of hiding places.....).

Promise to get some more pictures in the gallery when we get settled in Beaufort, NC - our port of entry after Cape Hatteras.

Send good wind vibes please (gentle North or West ones, if you don't mind).

Talk to you on the other side......of Hatteras, that is....

The name "iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet. Iolite is a semi precious stone, purple-ish in colour and it has also been called "water-sapphire" and the "Vikings' Compass", because of its ability to determine the direction of the sun on overcast days. This works by determining the [...]

We visited the Butterfly Garden which is part of the Natural Museum within the University of Florida (home of the Gators!), in Gainesville. Hundreds of butterflies are housed in a vivarium (huge enclosed space with sun & air moving through special screens & gorgeous gardens with streams/waterfalls flowing through). If you sit still they land on you to rest & make you feel wonderful. Most peaceful experience ever!!

With deepest respect to The Deep South that we just love, there are certain features that do create its sugared charm. Here are but a few.

There are a few notes on some pictures to point out specifics but overall it was the beauty I found in industry or the sense of flow with changing icons
