Community

Yesterday, we had to say good bye to good friends of ours who are owned by Koa Kai a Canadian-built PDQ Antares 42. Babs & Clark have two boats here (anyone know someone looking for a really nice Brewer 42 yawl with a bow thruster?) but need to head home to Ontario for a bit and then back down here to take Koa Kai cruising. We hope to raft up to them very soon!

One of the great things about cruising is the community that evolves. Here we were "stuck" in a foreign boat yard, living in a treehouse, with cold (for here) temperatures, and spending more money than we would have imagined given all the work we have already done, but we had a great time. Faune has even been looking at real estate on the MLS (scary).

The enjoyment comes from spending time with like-minded individuals who are in the same boat (so to speak). Wherever you are it always comes down to the people.

We have been really fortunate to be able to spend time and learn from two outstanding couples here, Babs & Clark, and also another couple Bobbie & JP who are owned by a Kanter Bougainvillea 62. I will devote another post to them tomorrow.

So....Babs and Clark are gone, Bobby and JP fly out tomorrow and we are listening to the water slapping on the hull, looking for a weather window to run out the inlet and continue the journey. We have an overnighter ahead of us to Cape Canaveral or Fort Pierce and there is a lot of wind over the next several days (those dastardly Canadian cold fronts).

We will run the boat today at high tide to sea trial her, come back to the float, go get groceries, return the rental car, then...watch the weather.

The name "iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet. Iolite is a semi precious stone, purple-ish in colour and it has also been called "water-sapphire" and the "Vikings' Compass", because of its ability to determine the direction of the sun on overcast days. This works by determining the [...]

We visited the Butterfly Garden which is part of the Natural Museum within the University of Florida (home of the Gators!), in Gainesville. Hundreds of butterflies are housed in a vivarium (huge enclosed space with sun & air moving through special screens & gorgeous gardens with streams/waterfalls flowing through). If you sit still they land on you to rest & make you feel wonderful. Most peaceful experience ever!!

With deepest respect to The Deep South that we just love, there are certain features that do create its sugared charm. Here are but a few.

There are a few notes on some pictures to point out specifics but overall it was the beauty I found in industry or the sense of flow with changing icons
