13 March 2011 | Spanish Wells, St. Georges Cay, Bahamas

Well, the last week has been a blast. Don and Aulayne Mingo, from New Glasgow, came to join the mayhem . We took the boat over to Royal Island for a couple days of peace and quiet with deserted beaches and old bougainvillea-covered ruins. Back in Spanish Wells, we attended a wonderfull star-lit beach bonfire for the 50th birthday party of a new boating friend we met in St. Augustine, Rachel, at her home with husband Chris (Morejohns both). They have a beautiful place on Russell Island overlooking the water (called "TightSpot" because it is wedged in beside a man-made inlet & another piece of land.....& has a studio called "Fish Heads" because each picket in the fence is shaped ike a fish) . Chris had a few examples of his artwork there - great stuff!

Up early the next day, the four of us - ok - five with Bob, took a ten minute water taxi ride over to Eleuthera. We rented an already-loved car and toured as far south as Tippys Cafe/Bistro in Governors Harbour, about half way down the island. We had a fantastic lunch alongside a really great beach. Bob made new dog friends and we discovered he has a major herding instinct, much to the surprise of his new, and far bigger, friends. We already thought he is perhaps primarily part Shih Tzu. Recently someone told us these dogs were used in Tibet to herd Yaks & were put in monks robes to keep them warm (and he loves doing that too). His arrogance shows when he's doing the yak thing.

Everyone has been very patient with us while we orient Bob to such an extreme way of living........especially Don & Aulayne........we'd like to thank them sincerely for that!!!! They were superb & extremely thoughtful guests.
Aulayne was our main driver (golf carts are the main vehicle used in Spanish Wells & already-loved cars in Eleuthera) and Don did double duty in the galley. You folks were awesome indeed!!

Just gone & it already seems a long time ago.....

The name "iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet. Iolite is a semi precious stone, purple-ish in colour and it has also been called "water-sapphire" and the "Vikings' Compass", because of its ability to determine the direction of the sun on overcast days. This works by determining the [...]

We visited the Butterfly Garden which is part of the Natural Museum within the University of Florida (home of the Gators!), in Gainesville. Hundreds of butterflies are housed in a vivarium (huge enclosed space with sun & air moving through special screens & gorgeous gardens with streams/waterfalls flowing through). If you sit still they land on you to rest & make you feel wonderful. Most peaceful experience ever!!

There are a few notes on some pictures to point out specifics but overall it was the beauty I found in industry or the sense of flow with changing icons
