It seems like a genie blink and we are here in Beaufort, NC after a miniblink in Brunswick GA & Charleston, SC.

We did a day run from Charlston into Winyah Inlet off Georgetown, SC then an overnighter from there around Cape Fear to Beaufort. It was a beautiful, moonlit night with a slow rolling sea as you can see by the flat water in the picture and the way bob & I are passed out while off watch as the sun rose.

Insert Bob Story
We had a couple crossings in a row prior to this that were not so great for Bob. It wasn't exactly the crossing but a few things that just happened during that time. Anyway, it left him fearful and reluctant in his sea confidence so he wouldn't leave our side. During this crossing a cheerful squad of six small dolphins decided to have playtime in the midship waves off the boat. I took bob over to watch them and he just loved their antics & their fishy smell. They kept coming up and looking at us and jumping out not four feet away. After they left he sat there for an hour waiting for them to come back. He still runs to the gunwales every time he hears a similar kind of splash.......and it seemed to rid him of his fears.....he has his sea groove back!

Windy weather offshore will keep us here in Beaufort for at least a week. We'd like to round Hatteras in calm conditions rather than the mess we encountereed last fall.

What a great place to be.....it's all here. We're anchored in the channel off the town near beaches, laundry & all sorts of resources (aka dessert stops!).

The name "iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet. Iolite is a semi precious stone, purple-ish in colour and it has also been called "water-sapphire" and the "Vikings' Compass", because of its ability to determine the direction of the sun on overcast days. This works by determining the [...]

We visited the Butterfly Garden which is part of the Natural Museum within the University of Florida (home of the Gators!), in Gainesville. Hundreds of butterflies are housed in a vivarium (huge enclosed space with sun & air moving through special screens & gorgeous gardens with streams/waterfalls flowing through). If you sit still they land on you to rest & make you feel wonderful. Most peaceful experience ever!!
