First Porthole Installed!

Yesterday, I dedicated several hours to replacing the only leaking porthole (saloon, port-side) on Iris. If you read the December entry of this blog, you'll remember David Merlot sold me a complete set of brand new, Wauquiez-tailored portholes. They came with detailed instructions and I confess it took me much more time than I expected. (Continued...)

The Wauquiez Thru-Hull Blues

Considering the age of my Centurion 32, 35 years, it occurred to me that it might be a good idea at some time to change the boat's thru-hulls. But how to do that? It was clear that the old Wauquiez shipyard hadn't followed the mainstream on this issue: Wauquiez thru-hulls are glassed in! (Continued...)

Haulout 2010

This weekend was again time for hauling Iris out of the water and give her a fresh bottom job. In spite of having been in the water for 16 months Iris's hull was pretty clean when she was put on the dry. I guess there are two reasons for this: the superb quality of the EU 45 antifoul, and the reduced marine life in Port Ginesta since the expansion of the marina (Iris's berth is now much farther away from the harbor entrance). (Continued...)
