17/08/2009, S/Y Best Explorer - Tromsoe
This morning we left Eidembukta and our friends, the walruses, after a last peek to their schools playing around. Yesterday night there was an old bull lying in the water on his back and sleeping soundly with his tusks completely exposed on the air. Some fresh wind from north east pushed us almost continuously to the south side of Bellsund where we discovered the water intake of our motor clogged with algae. Luckily our discovery was immediate and we probably avoided further damages. Now we are safely anchored and we will wait here or around a depression to pass by before resuming our trip south towards Tromsoe on next week-end.

This afternoon we left Longyearbyen and headed towards Forlandsundet where we hoped to see walruses again. A fair wind from NE allowed us to sail all the way out of Isfjorden, using the motor for the last ten miles only, as the wind faded away. A quiet and peaceful evening and a number of walruses awaited for us in Eidembukta. We anchored more or less in the same place of our last visit and are now expecting that curiosity will bring walruses near Best Explorer, to watch them comfortably without disturbances for our motor or sonar. Tomorrow we will head south towards Bellsund where we will probably await for a depression to pass and winds to subside. It looks like the fair weather we enjoyed those last few days will not continue: too bad! Rain is not our best friend.
