Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Bad news day

A bad news day indeed. It started off well enough. I went down to the boat early to meet the mechanic. He spent less than an hour on Karina and concluded with a remark about how much he will enjoy Hawaii this coming winter. The only thing holding the exhaust riser together were the rust particles holding hands. Soooooo... I am going to need a new riser. For those of you who are not diesel literate, this can be an expensive job. The mechanic also left with our injectors. He will test them and make sure they are up to spec. I think he may well be spending more time in the sunny south than I will this winter. That was not in the plan.
The next thing on my list was to put the wheels on the dinghy. That took the next 6 hours. It took two trips to the chandlery as I managed to destroy some of the ¼ inch stainless bolts that I bought for the job. I finished the job at 1600 only to discover the keeper that held the wheels on was defective (I was warned). I just didn't know how bad the story was. By 1630 I had the wheels properly fixed up and the deed was done. Wow, what a job! I didn't even stop for lunch.
Then, a quick meal at home and off to band practice. Maestro took out several new pieces, two of which get played this weekend in the parade. No problem as I got boo all else to do with my time as I won't be out on the boat. Just what I needed. To spend more time on a horn I don't really like to play so we can keep things going with the band. I am so disappointed as we won't be going to the BCA Rendezvous at Bedwell Harbour this weekend.
