Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

El Cid part 2

04 February 2012 | El Cid Mazatlan
Jay/ Warm
We have been at El Cid for almost 2 weeks now. For the most part it has been pleasant here in the marina. Once Bartholomew was out, we discovered more problems with corrosion further down the drive shaft. The yard boys came by yesterday and took the rest of it away to be dressed up and put right. My goal is to have no more trouble with the motor for the next 5 years. We'll see how that plays out.
The routine around Karina C is to get up and, after listening to the 0800 net, we get to work on the motor compartment. Today I was putting rust converter on some slightly corroded metal parts. While I was at it, I took out the motor mounts and did them as well. We try to finish our jobs by 1200 or 1300 so we can have lunch and get off to Bingo at 1400. Then, we laze away in the pool until supper. It's sort of a hybrid holiday here in Mazatlan. Tomorrow the metal bits I de-corroded will be painted with rustoleum. Then, the motor compartment is ready for Bartholomew to go back into his home. I noticed 2 siezed through-hulls that will need replacement when we get up on the hard. One is easy to get to, so I'll do it and buy parts in Canada so I can do both in the fall. I'll hire some Mexican contortionist to get the other one out. It might have to be cut out as it looks pretty ugly.
After all this work, Karina will be ready for the high seas.
Tonight we are going to the Mexican Fiesta. It is a favourite here at El Cid and seems to always sell out. We will head up right after lunch and get tickets.
We have been uncommonly lucky with Bingo here at the pool. I have 3 T shirts and a cool hat. Anita has 2 T shirts and is looking over my cool hat.
