Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Getting into life in Marina de La Paz

Laundry day on Karina C

We’ve been here almost a week and it feels like we just got here. We’ve been to two jam sessions. Anita goes to daily Spanish lessons and 2x a week line dancing. I have signed on a racing boat as crew for a race on the 16th.
I am feeling a lot better. Today I got the printer working while Anita was off at Spanish lessons and line dancing. After lunch we went for a bike ride to LEY (a grocery store) where we got the fixings for tonight’s and tomorrow night’s supper.
We are cogitating on a cruise off to the islands for a few days. Might leave on Saturday if we feel like it. Danny will be here on the 15th to work on the dodger and then we need to be tied to the dock while he works. At the same time we need to work on the drain in the chain locker as well as rebedding the windows. I have been planning both jobs off and on this week. Once all that is completed, we will probably start to think on heading N. We will drag our feet in the San Evaristo area as we seem to be strangely attracted to the area. Once we get to Agua Verde, we will think on heading over to San Carlos and home.
There has been little in the way of ‘Norther activity. The water is still in the high 70F range. An ideal time to go off cruising.
We have touched bases with Keith and Donna of Victoria Dos, Jim and Diane of Prarie Oyster, Colin and Sharon of Mamabird, John and Sandy of El Gato, John and Vicki of Dona Elena, Rick and Pam of Hotel California, Terry and Pat of Sunnyside, Rocky and Sue of Yarnspiner.
The mornings we have been enjoying the “truth net” on VHF channel 65. They have brought the craft of BS to a fine point. Sometimes you’d think they actually believe half of what they’re saying! They are truly a marvel to listen to in the mornings.

A few days ago we embarked on the big project for the winter: rebedding the windows. So far we have successfully removed the two windows on the starboard side. Tomorrow we will work on one of the two on the port side. The last window will come out on Tuesday. We hope to be able to replace the windows in a one day orgy of sikaflex later this week. We have been getting some good advice from Brad (Scaramouche) and Rick (Nyon) for this project.
The weather has been slowly getting cooler and that makes the work go well as it doesn’t get too hot to work. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, we have to pull out the sleeping bag and lay it over us to keep warm. It does the trick quite handily.
Today we went to the interdenominational church run by Baptist missionaries from the USA. They run a good service and a positive and challenging message. We will practice with the musicians next Saturday morning and jam on Sunday. We will also perform at the outdoor service on Christmas Eve here at the marina.
We went for two bike rides to Chedraui today for groceries. We have enough food for tonight and Monday. As well we got enough pop to float Karina. This is good as we will be busy with the windows until Tuesday afternoon.
