We are getting Karina back to normal today as Danny is finishing up the dodger. He got paid today. We are all happy with the deal. It was a lot of work for Danny, but he is well paid for his efforts. We still have a few pesos left for jobs on Karina I will mention later in this posting.
We have been busy with musical stuff. Saturdays we practice with the church group for Sundays. They are a great bunch of people. We jam with "the boys" on Tuesdays. Wednesday night is the jam session across the street at the restaurant/bar. Anita wanted to quit when she got a snootful of cigarette smoke wafting in from the bar. Right after the gig, she went and had it out with the manager. I came by yesterday and diffused the situation and he has conceded to make a number of changes to the seating in the bar and using fans to air the place. So Anita will do next week and see what happens. Above is a picture of the place we play at.
The Mexican manager was not used to getting lip from a female and you could just know this was not going to go well. The culture here is so very different.
Over the trip down from San Carlos, we noticed a thumping at low RPMs in our driveshaft. Rob Cross stopped by yesterday and confirmed my suspicion that the cutlass bearing has given up the ghost. We will need to haul out and pop the old one out and put a new one in. This can usually be done on a half lift. This is where the boat stays on the lifting machine while the work is done. This is more affordable than a full lift where the boat is blocked for a longer term project. Usually half lifts are 1-2 hour projects. If the Berkovich (a fine old Mexican name) yard can accommodate me, we will go there in the next couple of weeks. Fortunately, there is enough change from the money we set aside for Danny that we can get this job done without dipping into our savings again. We are relieved with this.
Rob also noted the exhaust riser needs welding. Just put a new one in before we left Canada and here we are again. Anyhow, if I winkle the riser off and have the welding done and then we should have a couple more years of trouble free exhaust problems. Don't know why the folks in Total Yachts didn't see it. I might have them work on it as I really don't trust my expertise with extensive mechanical work. It could probably wait until next season anyway. If I get bored around here I might give it a try after the cutlass bearing and port side windows get done.
Just coming into the Marina parking lot my folding pedal on the bike gave up. The spare is on the truck. Handy eh? We rode into town and the 2nd bike shop we stopped at had a pedal that fit the bill. We stopped at at grocery store on the way home and we are all ready for a slow day tomorrow.

Had a nice night last night. Played in church today. That was fun. After church, we came home and had an early lunch. Then we had 2 trips to the store.
When we were getting back to the boat we noticed the flags that meant the harbour was closed were flying. Our neighbour was just backing out of his slip. I asked him where he was going with the harbour was closed. He went out of the harbour. I wonder if the Port Captain catches up to him on a Sunday. Don't challenge Karma.
This is the same guy who was so obsessed with what I did for a job. That is one thing that cruisers really don't talk about: their previous careers. For the most part we see cruising as a career, so what we did is irrelevant to our lives now. People who are concerned with who you were seem boring to me. I think other long term cruisers feel much the same.
