Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Ready, set.....

Carnival parade. A very special time of year here in La Paz
We are now ready to get out of La Paz. The last bit of provisioning has been done. This afternoon I tried to start Bart on bank 2 (starting bank) unsuccessfully. Bank 1 needed to be brought into the project. This was the last straw for the bank. I didn’t want to be fighting with it all the way to San Carlos. We walked over to Quaker State and bought 2 new marine batteries just before closing. We left the old batteries with Tom and Suzanne (Begone) as they are leaving later next week. They will catch up with us as we are travelling a lot slower than we will be as their haulout date is in March and we are in April. We are both going to Marina Seca in San Carlos, so if we don’t connect, they will leave the deposit in the office for us.
The weather is definitely starting to pick up. The wind is down and the temperatures are in the high 70s or 80s. The forecast for tomorrow is light winds. We will motor to Caleta Partida, Isla San Francisco and stay a few days in the San Evaristo area and visit with with Cathy and Reno of Star. Then we will make the push to Agua Verde and Puerto Escondido to see Kip and Mary.
Speaking of Kip and Mary, we had breakfast with them here in the Marina restraint this morning. The service was iffy, but everyone emerged fed. Kip and Mary will be back in Puerto Escondido Sunday or Monday. They had friends visiting. Holgar and Marilyn are a nice couple from Pt. Roberts.
