Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

The back part of the radar arch.

As my addendum indicated, the blood test went very well. It darn near killed me to be that good for a week.
We went into town today to get some stainless fasteners for the new arch. Went looking for 1.5"x.25" aluminum flatbar. We were successful on the fastener front, but the flatbar not so lucky. I will talk to the welder (hopefully) tomorrow and see what he can source for our solar panel mounts. We were also successful at the money store. When we got home, I transferred money from our savings account into the chequing account to restore a good balance. Thankyou Scotiabank for your presence here in Mexico.
To celebrate all this good news, we are contemplating a new plan to get back home. We are kicking around the idea of summering Karina in Bahia Del Sol, Rio Dulce and then heading up the ICW to Duluth and shipping her back to Anacortes and then back to Nanaimo on her own keel. We'll see......

Today I got a little desparate and called in on Eduardo who is the manager of the workers in the yard. In light of some of the language difficulties I have had with the welder, I asked him to call Raphael (the welder). Well that did the job. Eduardo was just like Roma Downey in Touched by an Angel. Within a few hours Raphael was working on our boat. He is staying for the whole afternoon and doing a great job so far. I should have called on Eduardo earlier.

Today we made another trip into the money store to get more cash when it comes time to pay the welder. We stopped at the 66 hardware store to discover that their supply of stainless fasteners doesn't include 3/16 screws.
Shortly after we got back, we had Raphael & son here to bring parts of the new arch. So far, it looks pretty good. He was just here for a few minutes as he measured up the second of two arches and then headed home to do the welding. In the afternoon, we went over to the swimming pooL to surf the net. Anita had a good long chin wag with Tina. We walked back to the boat about 1600. I went off to the store and office to get some bolilos and coke for Anita. When I got back, I got into putting some of them power tools away. This caused me to dump the iPod and it's keyboard. The keyboard is dead, and I have no idea of where I'm going to find a new one. For now I'm getting by on the keyboard on the iPod. Works pretty good. I may stay with this arrangement.

Last night as I was putting the power tools under the port seat, I dumped the ipad and keyboard. The keyboard was a total loss as the charger receptacle was yanked right out of the device. Today, we went to the mac specialty store (AKA Walmart) and got a new qwerty keyboard. It works better than its predecessor and I daresay the keyboard is of sligthly better quality.
So as not to repeat the disaster from last night, I went over to the marine hardware store and bought two twelve volt receptacles for the ipod and the FM transmitter. I spent most of the afternoon splicing them into a line to the heater fan. This way, they work all the time. Makes that area a lot neater and I won't ever court disaster with the ipad, ipod, FM transmitter and keyboard.
