Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

We drove pretty hard and made all the goals we set for ourselves as far as driving was concerned. Anita did an excellent job of navigation although she got flustered at times when she though we were lost. We did only one zag when we should have zigged. In 2000 miles of driving, that is well within the range.
Our stops were:
Day 1- We were on the road by 1200. We decided to push on to the USA as Santa Ana was a little bit buggy. We made it to Green Valley (just S of Tucson) and were in bed by 2030.
Day 2- On the road at 0600. Travelled on the I10 to I5. We made it through LA with a little bit of the early rush hour (1500-1600) and drove all the way to Coalinga (Fresno). In bed at 2045
Day 3- We did 3 states. On the road at 0600 and stopped just N of Ft. Vancouver WA at 2015.
Day 4- On the road early. Fortunately, it is a Sunday so there was no Seattle rush hour. We made it through the border at 1130 and were in the ferry line up at 1200. We should be home by 1530.
The truck performed admirably. No mechanical issues whatsoever. Amazing how quickly we get used to having soap, hot water and toilet paper in washrooms. On the Baja, you are lucky if you get one of those. I still do a double take when the bathroom gives hot water at the sink. We are looking forward to restarting the house and taking care of long neglected business.
This will be the final blog entry for a while. If we take on any significant cruises in our kayak this summer, I will post a record of the adventures.
