Music, music, music

I guess its time to update you on what we have been doing. It is mostly musical stuff. We have had a couple of trips off to Newcastle Island in the kayak, but other than that, we have been growing cobwebs on the kayak. I am considering putting it away for the season as the nights are getting considerably cooler.
I continue to enjoy the Tuesday jam sessions at Marv's place. The afternoon of Tuesday is occupied by a dixieland band that plays traditional jazz. They are nice folks who play seniors residences. This is a soft spot in my heart as I aspire to being part of the house band someday. We went down to Ladysmith to listen to Dixie Downbeat and learned that the piano player was quitting the band. I happened to mention Anita to the bandleader and he has pounced on her with a book of 150 tunes. Anita is busy pounding away on scales and arpeggios like never before and getting ready to play with them. I have reconnected with the Nanaimo Concert Band and that has been fun. There is a challenging program that has got me practicing every day.
Sooooooo...... daily life has taken a distinctly musical turn for us. We have enjoyed this as we are both playing the best music of our lives. Anita has been adopted as the piano sub by my dixieland band.
I have 1/2 of my quarterly checkup and it looks like I am good until Christmas anyway. The other half I get Monday and I am not looking forward to it. We hope to eventually get the all clear after early March and make a quick trip to Mexico and get Karina to La Paz and a Nbound freighter. We will then spend our summers on the boat and winters in warm places. The retired teachers assn. has a great medical plan for us to travel in the USA, so we might try a winter or two in Palm Springs again.
