Jay/Hot
3/12
Its raining and hailing right now (1530). At least that takes care of the heat for today. Today was the day the electrician was supposed to make it here. Mananaland lives up to its name as manana is when he might show up. We are supremely annoyed that we postponed the remaining oil changes until tomorrow. I hope he can go over the ignition system in a timely manner so we can finish the oil changes. The good news is the jobs are dwindling down in preparation for splashing on Wednesday.
The shipping company sent me an email with reference to taking the mast down. That is not on as there is no mast tower in all of La Paz. Clarification of this issue will have to wait for Monday as these guys keep bankers hours. I have found United Yacht Transport to be incompetent and useless as far as the sales staff are concerned. "Not my department" is the usual response from these folks. If the yacht transport flakes out on us, we will have to do the bash in April, double back for the biopsy and then down for a long bash up the coast in July and August.
This just in....
Mr. Bigland,
I do not believe this ship will be calling LaPaz.
I checked with chartering and it's not on this voyage. We will be calling Manzanillo if that's an option for you.
Please let us know.
Thank you.

I was ready for this. I was warned by Glen Priestly (Borboleta) that United had done this to him. To their credit, they paid his moorage and management for the extra time the boat was stuck in Mexico. While they have not agreed to this with me, I expect things to go reasonably for the deal. After all there is no point in messing with a guy who can poison their business by giving a bad review to the Bluewater Cruising Assn.
After a night of thinking, I concluded that Karina will need a bottom on her if she is going to have to wait in La Paz indefinitely waiting for United to show up. So I went over to the folks at Comex and paid way too much for 2 gallons of paint that would need redoing when Karina gets to Canada.
The only good this out of all this is, we can take our time getting away from the dock here in San Carlos. It looks like the winds are fluky for the next few days after launching. So we'll wait until good N winds come and then we'll likely run to Puerto Escondido and stop in on Kip and Mary. Then hop down to San Evaristo, Caletta Partida, and then La Paz. There is more good in this as we can decommission Karina slowly and leave her direct to the airport and leave the boat with the manager. We hope to get to San Carlos the same day, sleep in the car overnight and head for the border the next morning. Kinda thinking about being in Nanaimo by April 15 or so. Missin' the Tuesday boys (jam session).
