Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Update

16 July 2016 | False Creek, Vancouver
Jay/ Cloudy-Sunny periods-Chance of showers
We did pass on Russell Island as the outboard continued acting weird. It did sort itself out with another fuel filter. We took Vaughn and Rita's mooring ball after a little exploration of the harbour.
We enjoyed the Jazz festival and we were on our way back home on the following Monday. Tuesday we got in and took on laundry, yard maintenance and some minor stuff around home.
Within minutes of arriving home, I managed to negotiate a sublet of our moorage. We had to be out by Saturday and we made the deadline by just minutes. We enjoyed 5 peaceful days at anchor in Mark Bay and then we set sail for Vancouver. We managed to sail most of the way in mid teens wind and then we had to motor the last 2 hours into False Creek where we found an excellent place to anchor. Free wifi (albeit a bit iffy) and free showers at the community centre. Today we showered and walked over to Long & McQuade (a musical supermarket) and Anita tried out her dream machine: a Roland RD-800. She says its like buying a $600 saddle for a $25 horse, but I have to say it made a great difference in her music. In order to get one we might sell the acoustic piano we have at home (as Anita doesn't get much use of it). As well, we might not get a chance to use the acoustic as we are not long for the old folks home.
I managed to get moorage for Monday (18th) at Fisherman's Wharf. We have a slip. Tuesday, the fridge repair guy comes to bless our old fridge.
