Ode to Old Age

We made it back in time to do a little work on a project we have going in the back yard: a retaining wall. We have bought 4 palettes of bricks and we are about to lay them. We've hired a young man who is a very good worker and he has been ever so helpful. Today I (Jay) went to the ophthalmologist's office [...]

Out for a couple of weeks

In late June, Anita’s shoulder and my eye healed sufficiently to make a little journey on Karina C.

Ko Samui, Thailand

Thai boats at the dock. Most have the characteristic motor that is marinated as a weird outboard.
We were up early and walked the town. As fortune would have it Anita felt the call of her bladder. The first WC we came to was a pay one. We're not too good with paying to do our business. So we walked a little further into town and found a free one in a restaurant. As luck would have it, halfway through our visit, I heard a roar outside. I emerged from the WC to see a real downpour. It lasted all day, but the hard part of the rain came first and lasted about 30 minutes. We just sat in the restaurant and they offered us chairs so we could sit and wait the rain. Seems like nobody was batting an eye at the rain, so it must be a regular occurrence.

We continued through the light rain to the temple. It was quite beautiful compared to the humble homes, most of which were on short piling.

One of the issues that has emerged on our trip is the alarm clock battery dying. So part of our journey was to the temple and part was a quest to find the battery. As luck would have it, the battery was just a few feet from the dock, but we didn't find it until we were on our way back to the boat.

I was talking to one girl who just got off the tender when the rain came. By the time she ran the 100 metres to shelter, she was soaked. So she went back to the boat. Nathan (on Ko Samui) is a very small town of maybe 5000 people. Lots of tourism as the town is quite picturesque
