Only 6 Months Left!

Cold and Snow
Ground hog day is here. That means we have gotten through the first month of 2014 and are one month closer to our departure. January was a busy month for us and we were eager to begin all the tasks that must be done before we leave.
From our boat list, we have completed the first two cockpit cushions. We figure that we will be spending the vast majority of our time on board in the cockpit so we have opted for 3 inch foam for our new cushions. You have to be comfortable while enjoying your sundowner! The transmission has been removed for refurbishment but still waiting to begin work on it. We have continued our research on solar and wind power and believe we have come to a decision. More information on this will follow once we actually place the order.
From our home list, the purge of anything that cannot go with us has begun and we have successfully sold a few things on-line. We have completed two rooms now and our garage is beginning to look like a storage room as we prepare for our first yard sale and first trip to the Good Will drop-off. Judy painted the laundry room last weekend to spruce it up a bit before we put the house on the market. We are hoping to list next month.
Travels plans are also well underway. We have plotted out course as far as Hospital Point in Norfolk VA. We still aren’t too sure about marinas, moorings and anchorages in the ICW so more research is required. We do know that we are planning on the ICW from Norfolk to Beaufort and outside from Southport NC to Fernandina Beach FL with stops along the way at Myrtle Beach, Charleston, and Hilton Head Island, then back in the ICW until Miami or a good weather window, whichever comes first. Judy is continuing her training on navigation and is researching places to see along the way.
For anyone else planning to leave it all behind and live the dream, the most important thing you need are good friends. I have not yet had to ask for help with anything as so many have offered to help with storage, work on the boat, advice on travels and places to see and things to do. We will miss these people until such time as they can come down and visit us. There are two other people that we owe a lot to that don’t even realize how much help they have been. Dave and Alex on Banyan are living life and sharing their knowledge with anyone who wants to read their blog. Like them on Facebook, Sailing Banyan, or read their blog on Sail Blogs, and if you don’t get the travel bug, you’re not meant to go! Cheers guys, we’ll see you soon.
