No More Feta

03 July 2014 | Corfu
Jane
We need to get on over to Italy soon so we left Itea and sailed a few longish days to Corfu stopping overnight in Kiato, Mesolonghi and a couple of nights in the beautiful Lakka on Paxos. This is probably our fifth or sixth visit here and it’s always delightful.

We are now anchored off Gouvia Marina in Corfu back in the same spot we spent several weeks in last year waiting for a weather window to go to Croatia. That window never opened so hope it’s not a re-run waiting to go to Italy! We have a couple of days of wind forecast and, as I sit here, it’s blowing 25 knots and gusting 35. This should all be gone by Saturday though and our plan is to leave Saturday early and either go to Santa Maria di Leuca on the heel of Italy which, amazingly, is only 90 miles from here or, if the Wind Gods are on our side, straight to Syracusa on Sicily which will be about 290 miles.

Here’s a few photos of our trip up here.

I wasn’t going to take any photos of the RionAntiRion Bridge but it’s hard not to!

I’ve come to love the Lefkas Canal. It starts off looking like you’re in a slag heap somewhere as you pass an excavator lifting out sludge, then you have to pass the rubbish tip, then you get spat out the other end past a huge tug manouvering a dredging barge then you get to – you guessed – a beautiful Venetian fort!

The charter boat in front of us thought this dredger might get out of their way! They discussed it with the Tug Captain and decided to take evasive action. Good choice!

Next time I write we’ll be in another country but after spending 8 months in beautiful Greece, a little bit has rubbed off on us. And we will be back! Yammas!
