Foça, Turkey
Early November 2012
Another picturesque town with a Greek feel in the entrance to the Gulf of İzmir that has plenty of little off-lying islands and bays. As soon as a light northerly wind started, we pulled the anchor up and left the main bay of Ayvalık motoring. Out in the open sea, the wind was still very light and it took almost 12 hours to reach Foça. We had to motor the last 2 miles as the wind had changed and it was 3 am when we anchored in the first bay we arrived at. The next morning we left Foça with a gentle westerly wind sailing through numerous little boats that were enjoying the sunny and warm Sunday fishing - what a pretty sight it was! We reached Mordoğan after a few hours and stopped just before the harbour entrance letting the boat drift while we were trying to catch squid - we did catch five of them.
