Skala Loutra, Lesvos, Greece

We left Bademli on the 2nd of December for Dikili to clear out of Turkey and to sail afterwards to Mytilini, Lesvos to check into Greece. The weather forecast was for strong southerlies later in the day but it was flat calm when we started. It took more than 4 hours to arrive Dikili about 7 miles away with the wind starting only in the last hour. We entered the fishing harbour, completed the exit formalities quite quickly (although it was a Sunday), did some shopping spending the last little bit of our Turkish lira and left Dikili straight after that around 1.30 pm. We made our way towards Lesvos quite slowly in the beginning with a temperamental southerly wind hoping to get to Mytilini before dark and then quite fast under strong gusts as we approached the town. We could enter the harbour and tie alongside the customs wall just when it started to get dark. Entry formalities were completed fast and smoothly this time as we knew what to do and where to go (and thanks to the Greek port authority which is on duty around the clock). We spent the night in the town harbour with the fierce gusts and heavy rain beating up the noise of the town this time. After spending the following night in an uncomfortable anchorage just north of Mytilini (having tried but failed to round the southeast corner of the island against a wind on the nose), we arrived our home on Lesvos, Skala Loutra, sailing downwind with a cold northwesterly the next day - the crew announced it the first day of winter and the captain confirmed it by collecting firewood from the beach and starting the nice little stove. Boat sweet boat.
Here we are in the most comfortable spot we have ever found in the Med so far - pretty, friendly, convenient and free. We are in our former spot, tied alongside the fishing boats' stone jetty, but our nice old wooden fishing boat is gone as well as the Egyptian fishermen friends. Our only neighbour is the German flagged Nordkaper with a nice young couple with two little kids and a kitten aboard. The weather is unusual though (or maybe it's just being winter) with strong and wet southerlies one day and cold northerlies the next day. Although it's cosy here, we'll try not to get stuck here this time but be on the move and explore other islands making our way to the milder south Aegean.

Skala Loutra, Midilli, Yunanistan (Aralık başı, 2012) - Türkiye'den çıkış işlemleri için Dikili'ye, sonra da Yunanistan'a giriş işlemleri için Midilli'nin başkenti Mitilini'ye gitmek üzere 2 Aralık sabahında Bademli'den ayrıldık. Hava durumuna göre lodos günün ilerleyen saatlerinde giderek şiddetlenecekti ama koydan çıktığımızda rüzgâr neredeyse sıfır, deniz kıpırtısızdı. Sadece 7 mil kadar uzakta olan Dikili'ye varmak 4 saatten fazla sürdü; mesafenin büyük kısmını ancak son saat içinde aldık nihayet başlayıp artan rüzgârla. Balıkçı limanına girip bağlandık, çıkış işlemleri hızlı bir şekilde tamamlandı (günlerden Pazar olmasına rağmen), cebimizde kalan son birkaç lirayla süpermarketten alabildiğimizi aldık ve hiç oyalanmadan Dikili'den ayrıldık - saat 13.30 civarıydı. Hava kararmadan önce Mitilini'ye varabilmeyi istiyorduk ama bir esip bir duran kaprisli lodosla gayet yavaş ilerliyorduk. Sonra adaya yaklaştıkça rüzgâr artıp sertleşti ve hızla limana girip hava tam kararmaya başlamışken gümrük rıhtımına bağlandık. Giriş işlemleri bu sefer hızlı ve kolay oldu, ne yapmak ve nereye gitmek gerektiğini bildiğimiz için (bir de liman yetkilileri haftanın 7 günü 24 saat görevleri başında olduğu için). Geceyi Mitilini limanında geçirdik - şiddetli lodos ve yağmur kasabanın gürültüsünü bastırdı bu sefer. Ertesi gün güçlü lodosa karşı adanın güneydoğu burnunu dönemeyip geri dönerek geceyi Mitili'nin hemen kuzeyindeki rahatsız bir demir yerinde geçirdikten sonra, nihayet buz gibi bir karayelle Midilli'deki evimiz Skala Loutra'ya vardık - o günü kışın ilk günü ilan ettim, Mark da kumsaldan yakacak odun toplayıp minik sobamızı faaliyete geçirerek bu gerçeği doğruladı. Tekne sıcacık bir yuva oldu.
Akdeniz'de şimdiye kadar bulduğumuz en rahat yerdeyiz işte yine. Güzel, sakin, insanları sıcak bir yer burası ve de limanı ücretsiz. Yazın bağlı olduğumuz beton balıkçı iskelesine bağlıyız yine, ama eski ahşap tekne artık burada değil, cömert Mısırlı balıkçılar da... Tek komşumuz, iki minik çocuklu hoş bir çifti barındıran, Ren ve Tuna üzerinden Karadeniz ve Ege'ye inmiş, Akdeniz'i aşıp Marsilya'ya, sonra da Ron ve kanallar üzerinden Kuzey Denizi ve nihayet Hamburg'a varmayı hedefleyen Alman bayraklı Nordkaper. Havalar tuhaf (gerçi belki de kış kışlığını yapıyordur), bir gün şiddetli yağışlı sert lodos, bir sonraki gün soğuk poyraz esiyor. Burada rahatımız yerinde ama bu sefer burada takılıp kalmak yerine, hareket halinde olup başka adaları da görerek daha yumuşak iklimli güney Ege'ye inmek istiyoruz.
