Sand Dollar Beach
10 February 2014 | Georgetown, Exumas, Bahams
Sunny, 76, breezy
We have been here for almost 2 weeks now so thought an update would be nice. The weather here has been fantastic. The days are 79 - 81 with a good breeze and the nights are generally 75 or so with a good breeze. The winds here so far, have been ESE, SE, E and NE 10 - 20 with occasional 25 gusts. Where we are anchored it is pretty protected most of the time, the SE winds tend to throw some 1 - 2 footers into the anchorage but they aren't that bad. As I said, the days are perfect, we have been Kayaking, Swimming(water is around 80), Trail hiking, dingying and the usual boat duties. The trail system on Stocking Island is extensive, through the jungle, there are people (crusiers) who love to keep them cleared out. Our favorite is the trail to the ocean where secluded beaches are the norm, the water is the turquoise color and it is truly beautiful, hard to tire of that view. We have been into town several times, it is small but a typical little town, lots of businesses near the dingy dock, there is plenty of fresh produce available, meats, and all the stuff we are used to so keeping good food on the grill, not an issue. There's also plenty to do here other than what we have done, there are volleyball games, jam sessions, and you name it, someone is doing it or hosting it and al are invited. There are around 200 boats anchored among the many anchorages around Georgetown, our anchorage right this moment has 8 trawlers and 20 sailboats. I plan to post a pic of the harbor from a high point soon, I have to hike up the hill to take it. Every evening, sundowners on the beach if you like and the bugs here, aren't bad at all, Bessie has only a few bites. We are enjoying every day. Till the next update, we will try to enjoy more perfect weather.
