Having arrived safely at La Coruna Marina late Friday night, enjoyed a few celebration drinks on board, we all slept like logs. On getting up the following morning, we realised that we were actually tied up on a pontoon that was not in use by the marina yet and that was covered in parallel pieces of green twine. Umm...time to move the boat I think! I checked with the very friendly marina staff and we moved Quasar IV to a more protected pontoon berth closer to the facilities. This marina is about 20 times bigger than it was last time we were here and well-equipped, each pontoon berth having its own electricity and water points. There is a decent Yacht Club coffee shop/bar/restaurant. La Coruna is an interesting town and yesterday was spent exploring the back streets where we stumbled upon a local music and dance festival where we spent several hours listening to Galician bagpipe music and watching the local dancing which was really excellent. DInner last night involved a small steak restaurant in the old part of town where the steak was supplied thinly sliced and we had a large very hot stone placed in the middle of the table which you each cooked your individual slices to your own perfection. Washed down with a local bottle of 'Vino Tinto de La Casa' of course! Not wishing to miss out on the night life of La Coruna, next stop was the tapas bar street which we finally departed at about 3am this morning despite the locals remaining in full swing with no apparent intention of stopping before dawn! A somewhat slow start this morning....but a great fry-up bacon sandwich which was then completely walked off heading up towards the Torre de Hecules lighthouse and the surrounding coastal paths for about four hours. A good walk with some excellent views out into the Atlantic Ocean. Tomorrow, we'll be fuelling up at about 8am and departing the marina to head west then south down the coast to our first Spanish anchorage in the Ria de Corme, a relatively short sail of about 35 to 40 Nm. I hope to get there by about 6pm so we can have a relaxing evening and a spot of fishing from the boat.
