Released from Hospital (Tuesday lunchtime)
04 July 2017 | Hotel San Carlu, Ajaccio, Corsica

Finally out of the hospital and starting recovery. As I am unable to get on and off the boat at the moment or manage the rocking motion, we have booked into a small hotel in the heart of the old town for four nights. I also have three nurse visits scheduled over the next 10 days to change dressings and remove the stitches on the 14th July. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the boat so Tracey is keeping an eye on things here each day. The marina staff have been very helpful in securing us a berth for the extra two weeks albeit at great expense of course! No discounts for patient recovery unfortunately. I am improving rapidly but the gas that builds up during the operation that remains in my body can still be quite painful at times and makes me look overweight still at the moment, which after four days of hospital food is a total impossibility! The elephant stopper pain killers that the hospital gave me on departure seem to keep this under control very well! Off out for some exercise now and to see some cultural sides of Ajaccio starting with Maison Bonaparte where Napoleon I lived until the age of nine. If I survive that OK, we'll move onto a small lunch in The London Cafe, a smart tea shop, and off to the marina so settle the new bill (ouch!).
