Some may call my painting artistic, particularly if assumed that it was done by a 5 year old! I believe that this may actually be the first painting I have done since 1974 when I realised my artistic talent was very limited so I took up Geography instead! Still, it's bad luck to leave Horta without painting the wall, so this was todays big job, now complete...yes, it is actually finished! Rain is forecast for tomorrow, so today was the deadline with us planning to leave first thing on Sunday morning. Saturday will be busy provisioning, checking out with customs and immigration, and finishing a few small jobs around the boat, mainly 'securing for sea', and generally enjoying our final day on land for a few weeks. The last few days have been good fun, meeting up with Chris and John from PAWS FOR FUN, who left this morning for the UK, a few days ahead of us. We have shared some great food, stories, music and beer over the past few days which has made for an even more enjoyable stay here. Horta is a great place to visit and although I have been unable to travel much due to the work that was required to make the boat ocean-worthy again, it is a place I would love to return to one day. This will give a better opportunity to see more of Faial and the surrounding islands which stretch for nearly 300 miles. Mark and Clare return tomorrow evening, so I suspect we will all 'eat and be merry' in anticipation of our final leg of the return journey to England. The weather forecast is looking good at the moment (but that can all change...), and the mast is standing upright, so it must be time to complete the final 1400 Nm. I think I shall spend the rest of the afternoon trying to get yellow, black and white paint off my hands....
