After a couple of enjoyable days in Dartmouth, we set off up the River Dart this morning towards Stoke Gabriel for some sight seeing before the turn of the tide. A seal appeared right next to the boat at one point, busy eating its fish for breakfast and not bothered by us at all. Sightseeing complete, we headed down the river into the sea again and set a course for Brixham. Sun out, Force 5 blowing nicely, mainsail jammed in the furler.....well, it is Friday the 13th isn't it?! After 45 minutes of trying to free the mainsail jam, we had to leave it as was, and sail towards Brixham with just a genoa out and very small mainsail or we would end up fighting the tide again which would be no good when only one day after spring tides. We initially rafted up on the Events Pontoon in Brixham Marina at about 2pm, but a space became available shortly after actually on the pontoon so we quickly took the opportunity to move. We can now stay here without having to move again until Monday morning when we leave for Teignmouth. This is just as well as it is now so windy here that we couldn't motor off the pontoon even if we wanted to as the engine is not powerful enough to counteract the 25 knots of wind that is blowing at the moment! When the wind stops, it will also give us an easier opportunity to un-jam the mainsail which will involve me climbing the mast and several hours of careful tugging and pushing (yes, we've had to do this before!) Tonight's dinner will be courtesy of 'The India Garden' curry house in town (thanks Margaret and Maurice - delayed May celebration!) which looks like a good spot, although only tomorrow will tell for truth.
