Viva Espana!
08 July 2016 | 15 Nm from La Coruna, NW Spain

We can see land after four days! Another day of no wind so the 7am task this morning was to stop the engine and refill the fuel tank from the 4 x 20 litre diesel jerry cans we have been carrying strapped to the side of the boat. I still cannot believe that there has been absolutely no wind for the entire Biscay crossing, especially after last week! The engine has been on for three whole days with a 15 minute refueling break this morning. The sun has been shining all day and it is noticeably hotter now, something I particularly noticed when cooking tonight's Thai curry and nearly melting in the galley! We appear now to be in permanent shorts and tee shirt weather at last. Today's wildlife highlight was without doubt seeing six whales pass our starboard side about two hours ago. These are really incredible animals and it is great to have the opportunity to see them in the wild. With about 15 Nm to go now, it looks like we should be tied up in La Coruna Marina by about 10pm this evening, much earlier than anticipated. This will also mean we don't have to enter an unfamiliar port in the dark which is always a bonus albeit La Coruna is pretty straightforward. Our plan is to stay here for a few nights, catch up on some sleep, enjoy the sights and sounds of the La Coruna old town which is very picturesque, then depart on Monday morning for the next Ria in search of a good anchoring spot near Camarinias. We have a few days before needing to be in Bayona for Thursday so shall be making the most of them. Off on deck now for a brew and viewing of the newly acquired coastline.
