Electric Dolphins in the Moonlight

We decided to head out further into the Atlantic than originally planned due to the wind direction and have now turned SSE to head towards Cabo Villano, about 25 miles NW of Cabo Finisterre on the NW Spanish coast. We have now travelled 274.9 Nm and used 6 litres of diesal, about four pounds worth, or a pound each! That was mainly getting through the 'doldrums' on day one and only lasted 3 hours or so. Last night was fantastic. Mild seas, good breeze, clear skies, the moon out and dolphins dancing down the sides of the boat from about 1130 pm to 2 am on and off. The dolphins leave a bio-luminescent trail in the water as they speed along and it looked like the boat was under attack from multiple torpedos! It makes it really easy to see where they are. We think there were about 10, but couldn't see well enough in the dark to count them precisely. Mark T has seen a whale spout today, but no whale attached. Judging by the size of the water spout, I think we may have actually been happy that we did not see the whale close up! The view of the stars out here is amazing; I didn't know there were so many. We are all on deck at the moment having lunch together (a rarity) and enjoying the sun which is glorious.
