We had intended to sail around in the Ria de Arosa today, find a decent anchorage for lunch, then anchor for the night just north of Isla de Arousa. After a very pleasant, hot, sunny day yesterday, we have had the opposite today. Totally overcast and heavy mist which has now just turned into rain. We decided to have lunch on board before leaving and shelved the idea of the lunch stop. Just as well we did. After 6 attempts to anchor at three different locations in the ria, we finally managed to get the anchor to hold (so far) just off a beach at Vilanova. Our first attempt was interesting; the anchor was not holding and on lifting it back on board, we appeared to have about 50 metres of fishing nets, line, weed and mussels attached to it. After about 15 minutes of removing it all whilst motoring around trying to avoid the rock strewn areas to the north, south, east and west of us, we moved to another beach. No rocks here, just loads of weed. After four attempts here, Plan C was engaged and we headed to another beach area with big rocks in, but easily seen. We are now anchored safely and preparing to go ashore for vital religious stocks, namely, bread and wine! As the wind is now picking up, the question we are asking ourselves is whether the boat will still be here when we return from town....!
