After a few very blustery days in Union Island, accompanied by torrential rain for most of yesterday, we departed Union Island this morning for Carriacou, a small island owned by Grenada. Having checked out through customs and immigration yesterday, we set sail this morning against a clear blue sky, a warm 27 Deg C, and 20 knots of wind, ideal for our downwind route. And then...3 hours later...we were in another country again! Anchored off Hillsborough, the capital of Carriacou, dinghy launched, and off to customs and immigration again to check into Grenada, and what a fine place it is. Everyone walks around smiling and saying hello, welcoming you to their country, and insisting you try 'Jack Iron', a fearsome rum which ignites in a glass near a naked flame (Mark T - you though Stroh Rum was bad!). Surprisingly, this rum is very tasty, but a small shot glass is enough for one day! We have just stocked up on provisions for the next 5 days and were pleasantly surprised to find it significantly cheaper than anywhere else we have been so far in the Carribean. With litres of rum for three UK pounds and litres of Gordons' gin at four UK pounds, I am surprised there is no ex-pat community here! The beaches here are white sand, long, clean, and totally devoid of humans; amazing. We are anchored here tonight off this remote island with no other yachts in sight, no loud music, and a great view across the Caribbean sea to the Panama Canal (apparently....!)
