Rain stops play....

Very heavy rain, inclement weather and a bad sea state prevented our trip to the Lazy Turtle on my birthday so 'Plan B - Wet Weather Programme' had to come into play. This consisted of a fine dinner of salmon, asparagus and tarragon sauce, a bottle of red wine (first since 23rd January!), followed by a home cinema evening consisting of the Bourne Identity followed by the Bourne Supremacy, both excellent films. Sunday was somewhat of a write off as we had torrential rain all day, most of which resulted in minimal views of the surrounding anchorage, so very much a book-reading day. Yesterday proved a great improvement; walking boots on and off up towards the top of the local hill. Although we didn't actually make it (private property), we found a very scenic farm track with a range of newish properties along the way and great views overlooking the south east side of the island. Lambs, goats and birds all added to the authentic British countryside sound, as did the smell of farmland....! Our return via the Carriacou Yacht Club for coffee and a search through the book swap got us back to the boat just in time to get ready to go to....The Lazy Turtle! And yes, this time we made it in a much flatter sea and no rain. Arriving at the dinghy 'dock' was interesting. As we approached in the pitch black, I just managed to get the outboard engine out the water as I saw a long trailing mooring line of a fishing boat. We still caught the line, but the propeller was not turning, so no problems.....except that, whilst untangling the line, I did not notice the rocks that we were about to be thrown onto by the next wave....Crunch! A wave lifted the dinghy, turned it sideways, and a sound of metal on rock followed by a horrible plastic ripping sound. This is when I noticed we were actually in about two inches deep water all of a sudden. Some incredibly rapid reverse rowing got us back out into the sea again, re-tangled in the fishing boat line, but luckily, with no damage. We finally managed to force our way into the dinghy dock amongst many other boats, got out and wandered up to the Lazy Turtle, where the pizzas, music and atmosphere all lived up to it's reputation. An excellent meal, and a safe return to QUASAR IV, this time, without incident, and ready for another day of adventure tomorrow.
