With a day that started sunny, calm and delightful, the afternoon progressively grew more boisterous. In the afternoon we were able to set 'jib and jigger', and sail with NW 12-14 knot winds. But the closer to Cape Caution we came, the stronger the winds and the higher the seas. By the time we passed Egg Island, the wind was blowing NW 18-20, and the seas were 5-6' and close together. The boat was knocked back by the waves slowing the boat down. So we turned on the motor to assist, and made uncomfortable progress in the conditions. Once behind Egg Island, we struck the sails, and turned away from the wind to find a protected anchorage for the night in Smith Inlet. It was nice to be anchored, and finished for the day at 6:00pm in time for dinner.
