Leaving Tenakee Hot Springs at 05:30, we headed toward Sitka, hoping to be near the crux of the day at Sergius Narrows at 1530. The weather was sunny, and winds were light. As luck would have it, we had light current against us, and were able to make the Narrows by 1520! As it was, there were 2 knots current with us, and there was considerable turbulence, even though the slack water was only 10 minutes away. A tug and barge carrying containers to Sitka, passed us going a couple knots faster than we were. He had shortened his towing rode so that he could make the required tight turns of the Narrows passage. It's exciting to see these pros maneuver in tight spots!
