The Iphigenia Bay Slog

04 August 2014 | Craig, AK
George and Sue Stonecliffe
For five hours from Coronation Island to the protection of the Maurelle Islands outside of the town of Craig, we fought 7' seas/swells that we were quartering into. Not a pleasant time! But once we were inside the islands of the west coast of Prince of Wales, the seas flattened out. Although the weather was a misty fog with half mile visibility, it was a much more tolerable trip. Arriving in Craig, we quickly ran to the grocery for provisions, and had dinner at the Dockside Cafe. In the morning we did a quick laundry stop, serviced one of our engine Racor filters that had been fouled with the Iphigenia crossing, bought a chart of the west side of Prince of Wales, topped off our fuel, and headed south. Our goal is to cross Dixon Entrance into Canada tomorrow, Wednesday, August 6th, saying goodby to Alaska and all its wonderful people and wilderness.
