Fresh Water Swim in Cassel Lake

08 July 2015 | Teakerne Arm , BC
George Stonecliffe
After calculating and negotiating Surge Narrows (4 kts against us) and White Rock Passage (Slack) with its two tight ranges, we headed to Teakerne Arm. We performed a stern tie, that is, placing the anchor in deep water, then swinging the stern towards shore, and tieing to a ring/bolt ashore with a 300' line from the boat through the ring and back to the stern of the boat. By tightening up on the stern line, a stern tie keeps the boat pointing out to open water, and the stern is kept from swinging significantly left or right. Also when leaving in the morning, the line can be released from one stern tie, and pulled back through the ring/bolt without leaving the boat. We rewarded ourselves with a short walk to a fresh water lake (Cassel Lake) for a swim! The water was refreshing, but warm (75 degrees).
