Cold Snap in Portland, OR

While back in Portland, Oregon for the holidays, a cold snap has a Canadian cold front coming down through here with 25 knot winds and below freezing temperatures. Ugh! Julia Max is on the hard at International Yacht Services in Whangarei, NZ. We are having teak work done, painting to the topsides and bottom paint, increased refrigeration insulation, and rigging work. Two wires and seven turnbuckles needed replacing. The Profurl furler needed its bearings and seals replaced. So we replaced the forestay while the furler was off. Chain was sandblasted and regalvanized. The windlass motor was replaced, and burrs in the mechanism were filed down. She'll be ready for us when we return in mid-January. Merry Christmas to all! (Continued...)

Putting on Weight!

I had forgotten how easy it is to put on weight during the holidays! My CPA and his wife told me their secret to losing weight was to eat reduced portions. Hmm! Land projects are progressing: tax preparation, dental appointments, all of those fun things are moving ahead. We had a great Thanksgiving with our daughter and son's families in Sun River. Our condo in Friday Harbor needed attending to as there was some water damage from a leak coming from the unit above us. Christmas present lists are being managed. Meanwhile sv Julia Max is getting a face lift. The teak decks have been re-done, and look great according to photos. The preparation for the painting of the topsides is ready for the primer coat. The refrigeration insulation project is moving forward. The 220v isolation transformer is being installed. And all is on schedule for a mid-January completion. Merry Christmas to all! (View Post...)
