Another hot calm day

05 August 2007 | Chesapeake Bay
Calm, hot 90s, and gray.
Today my friend Dan came out to join me for some sailing. The forecast was originally showing winds to be around 9 mph and the temperature to be in the mid 80s; sounded like it would be better than Saturday. Well, we were able to tack our way out of the channel into the bay, but just after rounding the shoal, the wind completely died. We sat and drifted for almost an hour, having lunch and trying to catch some wind in my sails without much luck. Dave was out there on his C-250 as well, and this is the weather where his sailboat outperforms mine. His being lighter weight has an advantage in light winds. The winds were only 2-4 mph, so it didn't make sailing too exciting. After sitting there in the heat with no breeze to help cool us, I decided to go ahead and motor back. Motoring at 5 knots provided a nice breeze and we got back around 2:30. I didn't take any photos, just have my GPS course:
chart 8-5-07

Nothing exciting happened this weekend. It was great taking some friends out on the bay finally after single handling the past several weekends. Single handling can be fun and rewarding at times, but I want to share sailing with others and sharing good times with friends is always great.

Extra: This site is all about my experiences with my first boat; from restoring it, to my sailing adventures. I enjoy hearing from my readers, so feel free to send me an email. I'm also interested in meeting new people in the area, especially people in my age range since I hardly know any that sail.
