Dinghy Skeg

I was suffering with what seemed like a cold and also had allergy symptoms. I awoke and felt fine. The green pollen that was coating everything was gone. Maybe it will return.

Clammy Hands

Items came in from TEMU, the Chinese cut rate retailer. One was a nice little drone that cost about twelve and a half dollars. It looked like an easy thing to play with while I coughed and sneezed. I was fighting a summer cold, even though it is not summer elsewhere, it seems like it here. A nice [...]

Sun Doggie

After laminating the cedar strips onto the gunwales of the dinghy I found the screws I used wouldn’t come out. The epoxy had seized them. The screw heads were stripped so I cut a straight slot in the heads with the cut off wheel. The cedar smoked when the screw heads got red hot. I could remove [...]

Just Add Water

The rainy weekend started off with overcast and fog but no rain. It looked like I might be able to get something done on the D4 dinghy. I wanted to change the bow seat which is really the bow deck. The sailing option uses the deck to hold the freestanding mast. I didn’t like how the deck looked, [...]

D4 Dinghy Alternative Seats

The rain event was more wind than rain, strong winds with gusts up to 44 mph. We drove into town to see what the harbor was like. There was a small sailboat that had dragged anchor and was sitting close to shore. The tide was out. We left and played with Bleu at Notter’s Pond.

D4 Inside Seams

Day two of the dinghy build started out with me finishing wiring the hull bottoms together on the centerline of the bottom panels. This was much easier than the wiring of the chine edges of the bottom panels and the side panels.

Beaufort from Above

Capn Andy/Sunny and Warm
The orders for the day were to do a load of laundry at the General Store, pick up barbecue lighters at ACE hardware, pick up a replacement halyard block at Anchors Aweigh marine consignment, then return to Kaimu, replace the block and load a couple carboys of water on deck.
.
The consignment doesn’t open until 11 AM, but the laundry was jam packed full. I rode off on the bicycle to ACE and found the lighters and some long life rechargeable AAA batteries. I passed the consignment on the way back and it was dead. Back at the laundry I was able to put my load in a washer. I rode around the neighbor hood to pass the time.
.
It was now 10:58, so I returned to the consignment store and they were opening and sold me just the block I needed. Back at the laundry my was still going so I went next store and ordered a chili dog to go. The laundry was shifted to the dryer. I had a homemade ice cream inside the General Store, then took their advice and rode over to the “Cru”, a coffee and wine bar that had wine tastings and sold wine by the case. They had an excellent South African Cab for $10 a bottle, so I ordered a case to be picked up the next day and dollied over to the dock.
.
Back at the laundry the clothes were dry, but not really dry, but I took them out anyway. I brought them to the dock, loaded the dinghy with the bicycle, two carboys of water, the laundry, and the little bag of parts.
.
Back on board I changed into lighter work shorts and prepared to go up the mast to repair the genoa halyard block. This time I did bring the cell phone camera and did take a photo of Beaufort from up the mast.
